TrackWell Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) is an application for
remote monitoring of vessels for fisheries management and enforcement
purposes. It provides real-time graphical updates of vessel locations
on a computerised map, handles catch and activity reports and
gives easy access to information on each vessel.
TrackWell VMS keeps track of a large number of vessels, reporting
automatically or manually via various communication systems. TrackWell
VMS connects to satellite systems such as Inmarsat, EMSAT, VHF/UHF
radio systems, GSM, TETRA and other vendor supplied communication
systems. The architecture of the software makes it a simple task
to add new communication system interfaces.
TrackWell VMS is not limited to graphical presentation on local
workstation clients. It allows for automatic event notification,
like area entry/exit alert, via SMS or e-mail. Furthermore the
TracScape web-server provides access to TrackWell VMS via the
Internet (using conventional browsers), both for fleet monitoring
and administration.
TrackWell VMS has full support for all message types required
by NEAFC and NAFO. It complies with the standard bi-lateral agreements
and the EU regulations on data exchange.
All messages are stored in a database for historical queries
and report generations.
Main functionality
- Relay and routing of position reports from vessels
- Relay and routing of catch and activity reports
- Real-time monitoring of vessel status and activity
- Display of vessel locations with speed/direction vector
on a geographical situation display
- Display of detailed vessel information in a tabular form
- Display of location history and tracks
- Sending and receiving text messages to/from vessels
- Monitoring of zones and areas where different vessels have
different activity rights
- Various levels of alarm conditions
- Various event notification possibilities
Setting standards
TrackWell VMS operates in accordance with the NEAFC and NAFO regulations
and standards (North Atlantic Format) for the monitoring of fishing
vessels. TrackWell's VMS also supports most common bi-lateral
agreements automatically.
TrackWell VMS is currently in successful operation with international
organisations like NEAFC and NAFO. Nations relying heavily on
fisheries and having the most advanced fisheries control regulations,
like Iceland and Faroe Islands, have chosen TrackWell VMS for
their national fisheries monitoring.
The system can be set up for any size of fleet, ranging from
10 to 10,000 vessels. The operation can take place on a single
workstation or many networked workstations and even over the Internet
from a standard web browser.
