Text Messaging or "paging" is one of the most useful
features of the TETRA technology. Users often find it more efficient
to send short text or status messages that the recipient can read
in his/her own time, rather than placing a call.
Additionally, mobile users may want to request for centralized
information directly without human intervention. They can easily
do so by using messaging features common in the GSM world (short
commands).
Users migrating from older radio systems will welcome this enhancement,
as GSM users have embraced the SMS technology.
Tetral is a Web portal to a collection of messaging and
information services, consisting of several powerful tools that
utilize the Short Data Service (SDS) for TETRA mobile communication.
Tetral's target customers include all professional sectors requiring
efficient communication and data access.
Tetral provides for example the following benefits for operators
and users:
TETRA operators
- Increased service level
- Easy set-up of new customers
- New revenue streams
- New opportunities
TETRA users
- Easy to use
- Notifications from office to mobiles
- Mobile users retrieve information fast
- Saving of time and money
Tetral Services
Tetral offers TETRA users benefits that open up a new dimension
in their communications. People in the office can send notifications
to mobile users, using a Web-based application or common e-mail.
Mobile users can access their company email server as well as
other information systems over the Internet.
The main categories of services offered by Tetral are
listed below.
Messaging
Tetral contains a collection of messaging applications. All the
following applications are accessible via easy-to-use Web interfaces:
Corporate SDS is a user service for organizations needing to
send messages to TETRA mobile stations, such as alert notifications.
Access is restricted with a login interface.
Messaging Centre is a convergent application to access external
mail server and internal calendars and contact lists through SDS,
WAP or Web interfaces.
Email-to-SDS is an interface or gateway where any user can send
a regular email message to one or several TETRA number(s).
Information
Tetral offers access to a wide range of useful information
services, such as flight schedules and yellow pages information.
The Tetral portal is flexible and is therefore easy to
adapt to other public or private information services, such as
short Internet content and queries to corporate databases.
Mobile users can gain access to breaking news, local or international:
business, sports, science, political news and weather forecasts
come directly to the mobile station.
Technology
The Tetral portal consists of a Value-added Service Platform
(VASP), database, Web interfaces and administration interfaces.
The Tetral VASP interfaces directly with the TETRA Network
(mobile users) for sending and receiving Individual SDS and Group
SDS, and with the Internet for enabling Web users to send messages
(PUSH) and access Web content (PULL).
Tetral can interact with various billing systems, and
third-party integration is especially easy, for both sending messages
and providing access to information.
