The hottest buys around come to mobile screens,
The first location-based service of its kind in Iceland, My super offer allows companies to place products they would otherwise advertise on the Internet directly onto mobile phone screens. By simply flicking through a menu on their mobile phone screens, users receive instant information on the best buys and offers in their immediate location. Apart from meals, which can be picked up or delivered direct to the user's home, the range of products and services currently on offer includes anything from electrical goods, computers, furniture, videos, CDs and comics, to clothing, bikes, cars, skateboards and health foods, not to mention tickets for the most exciting events in town, including films, plays and nightclubs. "My Super Offer presents a cost effective way for advertisers to reach potential customers on the go, "says Ágúst Einarsson, TrackWell´s Managing Director. "Advertising is all about reaching the right people at the right time, and today´s technology has enabled companies to find new ways to do just that. TrackWell´s My Super Offer will present consumers with special offers near to their location and give the advertisers an opportunity to reach customers nearby. " "Initially, the service is only available in Reykjavik and the surrounding area, but will be extended to include the rest of the country in the coming weeks and months," says Iceland Telecom's Magnús Salberg Óskarsson, the project's team leader. "So far as mobile phones are concerned, location-based services are still in their infancy," says TrackWell Software marketing and business development manager, Hreiðar Þór Jónsson. "Given that the company has aready developed a wide range of location-based services and applications for use by companies and organizations, we view the mobile market as a natural extension to the range of solutions we already offer. There is clearly a great demand worldwide, and we are already negotiating with a number of potential buyers." The first version of My Super Offer uses SIM ToolKit (STK) as an interface, but later versions will support SMS and WAP. The system also supports advirtisment-sponsored SMS for individual use. The initial phase will thus offer PULL services, but within a few weeks, a PUSH service, based on the users´subscription to different categories will be implemented. The selection of content will be locationbased, so that the user is only presented with offers from advertisers nearby. For further information on My Super Offer,
