TrackWell and the Norwegian company NAVY AS have signed an agreement that NAVY becomes a distributor of TrackWell electronic logbooks in Norway.

The Directorate of Fisheries in Norway has issued a new requirement for electronic logbooks which will apply from October 1st 2010 for fishing vessels over 21 meters and from January 1st 2011 for vessels over 15 meters.

The TrackWell Logbook is already certified against existing regulations in Norway and is in the final approval stage to meet the new regulations. The logbook has been adapted to the Norwegian market and is in use onboard several vessels. The logbook will be sold and supported by NAVY nationwide dealer network under the brand name “TrackWell Fangstdagbok”.

NAVY has very good coverage along the coast of Norway and will be able to offer a first class service to the boats no matter what port they are in. NAVY has over 100 experts in marine electronics that are located in over 20 offices from Kirkenes to Fredrikstad. Mr. Mohamed Nasheed president of the Maldive Island visited TrackWell together with Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson president of Iceland during his recent trip to Iceland.  The presidents discussed possibilities in cooperation in the field of fisheries, energy and climate changes.  

TrackWell presented fisheries management solutions which have been developed in cooperation with Icelandic authorities.  TrackWell has recently implemented new software to aid in monitoring the sustainability of tuna fishing developed in cooperation with the World Bank and the Maldive authorities.  Long discussions were after the demonstration on how those two Island nations can cooperate in using technology to harvest fishery resources in a sustainable and generally “green” way.

Trackwell ADS, the U.S. subsidiary of Iceland-based TrackWell, announced today that Hal Einarsson has recommended the appointment of Tom Lemke to the position of President & CEO and the board has approved this recommendation.

New regulations in EU

According to EU regulations 1088/2008, fishing vessels greater than 24 meters in length overall will be required to electronically record and transmit logbook data on a daily basis as from 1st of January 2010. The same requirement will apply to EU fishing vessels greater than 15 meters in length overall as from 1st of July 2011.
ERS is a system for recording, reporting, processing, storage and transmission of fisheries data (catch, landing, sales and transhipment) according to EU rules. The key element in ERS is the electronic logbook. The electronic logbook is used to record and securely transmit the details of fishing operations. The information is managed by the master of the fishing vessel and is transmitted to the Member States authorities where this information is then stored in a secure data base. TrackWell is adapting the SeaData software to comply with the new regulations of EU regarding ERS.

TrackWell Electronic Logbook is the standard mandatory module for reporting to fishing authorities. The Electronic Logbook is well proven and simple to use for recording and securely transmitting the details of fishing operations.

 The information is managed by the master of the fishing vessel and is transmitted to fishing authorities. Alternatively more detailed catch and product information can also be sent to a database managed by the fishing company.

The Electronic Logbook captures a wide spectrum of information related to the catch and stores it in a database on board the vessel for viewing and inspection. It can be connectable to a variety of sensor devices, including GPS, weather sensors and echo sounder, resulting in fewer errors and mistakes in data entry.
